FOREWORD
I first met Robert on an expedition to northern Uganda in 2007. The charity I was working for was building dormitories at a local school. Many of the children who attended it were too disabled to make the daily commute – crippled and blinded by malaria and other diseases contracted in infancy – and the dormitory was the only way to guarantee them access to an education. Robert was asked to document the trip to help raise awareness back home and, with any luck, some funds as well.
I was immediately struck by his eye and how quickly it found the truth of the people we were visiting. He has a knack for photographing what we all see, yet somehow, through his lens, it finds some greater meaning. It truly is a rare gift.
Needless to say, we've been friends ever since and I've taken great pleasure in seeing the world from his perspective, even if it is only one picture at a time.
